All are welcome to the annual “Child’s Gate to Learning” update on projects, including 10 after-school centers in Lithuania that work with children/youths from at-risk families. The session will feature 2018 project highlights and plans for 2019, including preparations of 16 young Lithuanian Americans who will travel to Lithuania to volunteer at supported centers in the summer of 2019. The session will be conducted in Lithuanian.

On Saturday, March 23, 7 pm please join us at the Balzekas Museum (6500 South Pulaski Road, Chicago, IL 60629) for a special book presentation by award-winning researcher Dr. Gražina Siderskytė, who will discuss her new book, The Farside of Lituanica, about American Lithuanian pioneers in aviation, pilots Steponas Darius and Stasys Girėnas.Find out more »
The spring concert “Sustok… pasiklausyk” (“Wait a moment … listen”) on Sat., March 2 will feature works by the patriarch of Lithuanian classical music, Juozas Naujalis, in honor of the 150 year anniversary of his birth, as well as works by other Lithuanian composers such as Augustinas, Zakaras, Daugirdas, Matutis, and Govėdas. Also featured will be Rockford native Jake Runestad’s incredibly moving and socially relevant piece “Please Stay: An Anthem of Hope and Suicide Prevention”. Lastly, soloists and chamber orchestra will join “Dainava” in a performance of Franz Schubert’s Mass in G, one of the most popular classical masterpieces of the 18th century. The Lecture “Musical findings in the Balzekas Museum Music Collection”. Prof. dr. Darius Kučinskas, a recipient of a grant from the Baltic American Freedom Foundation, will present the results of his year-long research and archival work at the Balzekas museum.
