It has been 85 years since one of the most daring and historic flights of aviation history occurred on July 15, 1933. Lithuanian American pilots, Steponas Darius and Stasys Girenas, not only carried America’s first trans-Atlantic mail, but also recorded the most accurate flight without the use of navigational equipment at that time.
This Sunday, July 15, we celebrate and commemorate this historic event at the Darius and Girenas Memorial in Marquette Park at 10 am. Following ceremonies at the Memorial, there will be 11 am Mass at the Nativity BVM Church. The festivities after Mass will continue at the parish hall with dinner and entertainment provided by Lithuanian American Theater, “VILTIS.”
Would be nice to see all of our friends there.Find out more »
