2018 Independence Commemoration
Join us in celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the restoration of the independent state of Lithuania and 28 years since the reestablishment of that independence. 100 years ago on February 16, 1918, Lithuanian proclaimed its independence from Russia and entered the modern list of nations. 28 years ago on March 11, 1990, Lithuania was the first of the Soviet Republics to declare its departure from the USSR.
On February 18, 2018 we will celebrate this event with a dinner and cultural event. Presentations will be made by our new children’s Lithuanian school, our local Ruta Folkdancers and, from Lithuania, the folkloric group RONGĖ. Be prepared to sing and dance, Lithuanian style.Find out more »
Lithuanian Independence Day Celebration
Saturday, February 24 at 5 pm
Latvian house (5500 SW Dosch Rd., Portland, OR 97239).
February 16, 2018 marks the CENTENNIAL of the declaration of Lithuania‘s independance. What we celebrate this year is not one date but an entire century of the success story created by the people of Lithuania and the Lithuanians living abroad: our grandparents, great-grandparents, parents, and us. Many of us still cherish in our families live memories of the signatories, diplomats, farmers, freedom fighters, priests, athletes, teachers, the Righteous among the Nations, members of Sąjūdis, scientists, or the volunteers. They are our heroes that make up our Lithuania. Please, join Portland Lithuanian community to commemorate Lithuanian History!Find out more »
